The start of filming

Designer, Hannah Lance

some images taken during the filming of 'the dress', developed with paper and calico, i tried to capture all the significant moments of her garment construction.
Starting with the basic dress piece she began pinning paper, slit cut and folded onto the dress, and then sewing them up in layers.

Planning the organisation of how im going to shoot my documentary will be planned around the features in the Jem cartoon, using a similir Star symbol whihc represents Jem s character;

Story board,

Using tracing paper and images i want to create a video which will incorporate some illustration and footage mixed together, i have tried this out here using some test shoots,

starry eyed Ellie Goulding
I Love the way in her music video for Starry eyed they slow montion the video it gives such a beautiful effect of motion and space, this really fits in well with the 80's theme, a lot of technical fabrics whihc would have been used a lot in fashion at this time.

NetHoneys Private Jet shoot,
Im really excited to have been asked to become part of the team for a shoot at Bournemouth airfield on the 16th April for NetHoneys, to be their MAke up artist and stylist.
Advert for freelander 2-
This really grasps the use of stop frame animation and i love the way it really brings the car to life. I love the way the images dont just flicker ontop of eachother but move along side just like the motion of the car would on the road.

From this im goin to use the images i took of a flick through the most recent Vogue and turn them as if u real magazine, film this again and then speed up the process.

!980's cartoon Jem

A little bit of history about the cartoon Jem
'Jem, also called Jem and the Holograms, is an American animated television series that ran from 1985 to 1988 in U.S. first-run syndication. The show is about music company owner Jerrica Benton, her singer alter-ego Jem, her band the Holograms, and their adventures.'

This cartoon is a great influence for me as at the moment im working on a video documentary in which i will be filming a designer friend of mine; Hannah Lance she will br producing some work for the duet The Girls who will be working alongside The Photographers Gallery at Selfidges where they will have a space for 1 month in the ultra lounge.

In Bed With Marc Jacobs and Stephen Sprouse
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QisgcW5cuGI

Louis Vuitton recently fĂȘted the launch of its Stephen Sprouse collection. Marc Jacobs told New York's Harriet Mays Powell his inspiration for the line came from a number of places. "I thought, well, how do we deface the monogram to make something more rebellious? More punk?" Jacobs said. ...

80's Iconic fashion deisigner Stephen Sprouse for me is a great link back to The Girls
Sprouse had a very unsteady career going in and out of bankrupcy and it is today that we know and love him for his work for Louis Vuitton

'The graffiti logo bags he designed in collaboration with Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton in 2001 made the fashion world take notice once again. The pieces sold-out instantly.'

'For both Fall 2006 and 2008, Marc Jacobs utilized Sprouse's 1987 graffiti leopard images for handbags, shoes, and scarves for Louis Vuitton, which sold-out instantly.'

Jeffrey Dietch

'Anyone who was involved in the downtown, music, art seen in the 1980's was a fan of Stephen Sprouse, that period when Stephen was involved with Andy Warhol and Debie Harry, thats an ideal for so many people now.'

The Septermber Issue
i didnt have an pre expectations of this so-called documentary, i was just really excited to see it, almost like something we have all been waiting for, the key for the door to the insight of what is going on. I did watch it thinking if we were seeing everything in total honesty. september issue, hit on a lot of interesting thoughts i have had about working for a magazine and it brought all the ugly truths out.
Grace easily became a great inspiration for so many young girls i think, and her relationship with Anna Wintour was so exciting to watch. i was surprised by the way it wasnt a total focus on Anna Wintour but did manage to show the other very influencial people from the magazine and exactly what they do.

This is defintely a good piece of research material for me for this project as i want to create a documentary, nothig staged just a natural glimps of the construction of garments for this particular project.

The Girls - The Paper Eaters
Collaboration with The Photographers Gallery, The Girls will be artists-in-residence at Selfridges' Ultralounge. The Paper Eaters - Long Live the Photo-Story!

After meetin Zoe Sinclair, just half of 'The Girls' duo, i was inspired by many of their ideas, adventures and work. I began thinking about how i could get myself involved with them.

Androgyny-
The shoot went so well and im so happy with the way all the images came out, thank you to CLaire Organ my photographer who was great! i used the images to create a small film flick for youtube which you can view following this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Okukqffg_PI

The idea all came from bringing the concept of fashion and identity and how we all create our own image. The importance of the masks in my shoot was to hide each individual sexuality and bring them together as one. i would have loved to spend even longer on this project and im going to take it further in my own time, do a similiar shoot involving a few more models and have 5 or 6 outfits totally identical, play around with height and size and look at similarity and indiviuality.

Age 8 and wanting a sex change
This powerful documentary about several kids in america who have decided they have been born the wrong gender.

'Eight-year-old Josie was born a boy but has been living as a girl for two years since revealing the full extent of his feelings about his identity to his mother.'

'Sixteen-year-old Chris, who was born a girl, started testosterone treatment at 14. He now has a deep voice and plentiful body hair, and shaves regularly.'

A personal opinion written about the show on the channel 4 website
' Good programme but if im honest i got very angry everytime the narrator refered to the children as their biological gender. It is extremely disrespectful and showed narrow minded views of gender dysphoria. The parents in the programme however i think are amazing and very supportive, respecting their child and seeing them as who they truely are. '

layering the images allows the idea of mixing gender and sexuality, by changing the opacity on a layerd image like with this one i have managed to bring the two together, this is something im trying out as i would like to do this with my final images from my photo shoot.
Me against the Music
A perfect example of androgyny in music and fashion, Madonna and Britney spears meet in this perfect video portrayal of feminine and masculine. In the music video they find themselves moving through an underground club space on either sides of a wall which separate them. They are both dressed very masculine in suits and Britney wears a hat. I really like the attitude in this video and i this this is defniftely something i would like to portay in my shoot.
